JoAnne Steps Up

I had the wonderful opportunity to take a walk in the park with JoAnne. After warming up to my camera, she felt comfortably relaxed . Sometimes people aren’t sure what will happen during one of my photo shoots. I just tell them about capturing the life and personality of my subject. It’s easy to get someone to pose like this, put your arm like that, move your chin here, and smile like that. When you capture images of a person, you’re not thinking about the last person you photographed, those same poses. You think about the person right in front of you. You think about what makes them smile, what makes them sad, and you bring that out of them. I love to see what’s inside of people and to have them reveal it to me. If you love my style, don’t hesitate about contacting me about setting up your photographic revelation.

The Justin Faulkner Trio

Last night’s performance was indeed a treat for the ears. Arriving to an empty room at The James A. Michener Arts Museum in Doylestown, I wondered how the sound of this beautiful room would hold up. To the delight to everyone’s ears, the trio came with a mission. With Luke Carlos O’Reilly on keyboards, Mike Boone on bass, and the youthful Justin Faulkner on the drum kit, the fireworks were definitely keeping everyone’s attention. The room is rather spacious with beautiful gardens on either side and a sturdy looking wall which was behind the group, but on the exterior. After a brief intermission, Justin wanted to show his admiration for Philadelphia drummer Robert Hendersson and his younger brother Nazir Ebo. Both sat in for a tune and let everyone hear what they had to say on the drums. Overall this show was full of lightening, thunder, and some light pedals of beauty. All of which Spring is about.

Springing Into Action

I had the opportunity to photograph Chase this past weekend. The weather was delightful, the location pleasant, and the model? Well let’s just say I didn’t need to tickle him to make him smile. Sometimes you really need to convince children that what you’re doing is simply fun. Other times you may need to just get the session over quickly as possible. There was nothing about this session that made me want to stop shooting. As a matter of fact, if that ice cream truck didn’t show up, I might still be there.

Fire In The Night

Cleaning my camera, packing the necessary lenses needed for the evening, and filling my gas tank all are steps I take when heading out to capture images for the evening. This particular night I was headed to Chris’s Jazz Club to see The Wayne Smith Jr. Quintet. Did I talk about the traffic? Forward 40 minutes ahead. The house was packed for this evening and Wayne had his family in his corner. Pianist George Burton even acknowledged their support by stating, “Where are you guys when I have gigs?” referring to the loud applause Wayne’s family deservedly dished out after every tune. Vocalist Shakera Jones stepped up for a sultry tune to slow things down a bit. The evening as a whole was pretty incredible musically. Although I yearned for a nice burger, which they don’t serve until the late night jam session, I was filled another way, musically as the band,  Brian Woestehoff on tenor, Craig Magnano on guitar, George Burton on piano, Alexander Claffy on bass, and Wayne Smith Jr. on the drum kit gave all they had that evening. Photographically I hope you can feel the music that was served on a silver platter.

Getting ready for a busy year.

2012 had me running crazy trying to get all of my needed equipment that I needed to get the shots I wanted. In 2013 I will be concentrating more on the business side of things and also working on some of the small details that separate the hobbyists from the Professionals. Portraiture will be my main focus this year. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I am looking to capture all of the love in the air. Soon after that, Spring will be here before we know it. Time for everyone to start showing off those bodies they’ve been working on since they got that gym membership for Christmas. Couples, children, families, as well as individuals looking to capture the elegance of the season. Not too far afterwards we will be all getting ready for Easter. Those bubbly babies and little cuties in their best attire all scream, “Take My Picture”. Next up? The Prom! Graduation will be right around the corner and just as fast as it ended, the school year will be starting all over again in the Fall.

So as you can see, the year holds endless opportunities to keep very busy photographically. Don’t let these special moments pass you by without having them documented by Anthony Dean Photography. I wish everyone a blessed and healthy new year.
